History: Ruby Zoisite was first documented in 1949 by two English prospectors who had lived in Kenya. During one expedition, one of the partners discovered a large flat basin of green stones covered in bright red Rubies. Some of the rubies could be picked up off the ground and others were nestled within the Green Zoisite.Today, most of the gem-quality Rubies are gone, and so the mine now exists to extract Ruby Zoisites, which are essentially low grade Rubies in a Zoisite matrix.
