Colour: Spinel is a gemstone that comes in a variety of colours. Pure Spinel is colourless, but impurities are responsible for the wide range of colours. Colours include red, blue, yellow, orange, pink and purple.

History:

There is much evidence that many of the finest early rubies and red spinels  in gem collections around the world were originally mined at Badakhshan, and that some of the most famous stones, long thought to be rubies, are in fact spinel from this source. Two of the most famous form part of the British Crown Jewels and are known as the Black Prince's Ruby, and the Timur Ruby. It was not until the nineteenth century that Spinel in its many natural forms were recognized.

Apart from Spinel’s beauty, magnetite which is also from the Spinel Group, has magnetic properties that make it one of the most important minerals ever to be discovered.
