Amethyst belongs to the Quartz family. It's colour derives from trace elements of Iron and Aluminium and it is found all over the world, though some of the richest deposits are in South America.

Metaphysical & Healing Properties

Amethyst is a stone of protection and purification and, with its strong Crown Chakra affinity, is often used to help create grounding and stillness for meditation, whilst also aiding the user to achieve ever higher levels of consciousness. It helps release addictions. 

If worn it helps to create an inner space of peace and is particularly effective at enhancing spiritual protection if used in conjunction with Moldavite.

Amethyst Chevron has the same qualities of amethyst but more intensified and is very good when working with the higher chakras, specifically the Third eye and Crown. It assists with activating and linking these two chakras.

History 

The name comes from the Greek word amethystos from ἀ- a-, "not" and methysko,"intoxicate", a reference to the belief that the stone protected its owner from drunkenness. The ancient Greeks wore amethyst and carved drinking vessels from it in the belief that it would prevent intoxication. Egyptian records credit it with having powers to protect against poison and toxicity and it was worn as a Talisman by soldiers to instill a sense of calm during times of danger.
