The Calcite family had their name bestowed by Gaius Plinius Secundus (Pliny the Elder) and is derived from the Latin word 'Calx' - Lime, in turn a derivation of the Greek word for Lime - 'chalix'. 

The Calcite family are not traditionally associated with any particular zodiac sign, however they can be effective in clearing characteristic blockages experienced by certain signs.

Metaphysical & Healing Properties

Blue Calcite is primarily a soothing stone for the emotional body and particularly effective at restoring.

It assists in achieving balance after an intense dramatic/traumatic event. It creates a bubble or 'cocoon' around the user protecting them from negative energies and impacts.

Known as the stone of Trust it can be very helpful in negotiations, providing space for the wearer to access trust of themselves and emanate that trust out into the environment they're engaging in.

It is also a stone of Happiness and part of its restorative function is to lift the wearer/user out of mental anxiety/depression. 

It is associated with creativity as it encourages an exploration of the unconscious, where the creative impulse is often born.

Calcite's historical reference is mainly in the realm of pre-history as it is such an important building block for many creatures, especially sea creatures who use it to create their shells. In previous epochs the seas were infused with Calcite and, apart from being the essential ingredient in coral reefs it has more unfamiliar roles in biology such as formulation of the eyes; Trilobites eyes were of pure calcite.
