History
Discovered in the 1940s by Russian Geologist Vera P. Rogova, its name is derived from the river “Chara” in eastern Siberia, Russia, the only site in the world where it is found.
Some people argue that the name is derived from the Russian work “Chary” meaning “magic” or “Charms” attributing this stone to powerful transformational properties.
It is mined from a mountain found in massive form in dense fibourous aggregates and can have various shades of purple depending on the composition.
The colouring of Charoite, together with its beautiful unique patterns, often lead to the stone being mistaken for a synthetic mineral.
The stone is also sometimes called “Charoite Jade” when it is being used as a decorative stone.
