The native Inuit people referred to Labradorite as the “Fire Stone” because of its inner beauty and resemblance to the natural light show the Northern Lights often seen in those parts of the world. The Inuit prized Labradorite for its beauty and magical properties and often traded this gemstone with British merchants for vital supplies needed for survivor in the harsh climate of the region.
The stone has been a subject of many ancient stories and legends, one of those tells a story about Inuit warrior discovering an astounding array of colours inside the gemstone. He thought them to be the aura of the northern lights which was trapped inside the rock, the warrior used his spear with great power to break the stone, freeing the lights to the skies where they belonged. It is said that the light which remained on earth was trapped inside labradorite stones.
